Hi

I have read the Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs http://detox.net.au/articles/cayenne-maple-lemon-cleanse.htm and notice that he recommends taking sea salt with water each day while on the cleanse to clean the toxins out of the bowel and work like a laxative. This advice goes against what other prominent health advocates such as Paul Bragg http://bragg.com/ and Richard Anderson http://www.cleanse.net/newsite/articles/digestive_tract.html say about salt being unhealthy and mucus forming. What is your opinion. This is what Richard Anderson has to say while narating the organs of the body:

"Table salt! Ahh!!"  he interrupted forcefully. This very distinguished person was in a rage. He stamped his foot and shook his finger at us. "Inorganic salt, sea salt, rock salt, inorganic sodium chloride!  Bad!  Highly destructive. It is body enemy  #4, along with distilled vinegar and fried foods. It is almost as dangerous as alcohol. It cannot be used, and it requires a great deal of effort to get rid of it."

Thanks for your time.

Hi Jam

Thanks for your post. The question of sea salt has 2 very strong parties, both saying opposite things. In terms of doing the Master Cleanse http://detox.net.au/articles/cayenne-maple-lemon-cleanse.htm, I would prefer to take a herbal laxative such as senna or something like that along with prune juice or some kind of herbal formula like the one in Richard Anderson's cleanse as listed here http://detox.net.au/Cleansing-body-transition-Detox-Diet-Cleanse-Recipes.htm, although I know this is not exactly what the book recommends.

Personally I feel that Richard Anderson and Paul Bragg are probably correct and try to avoid eating salt myself. Although I do like to add sea salt to food at times. But while on a cleansing program I definitely avoid it. But ultimately each person needs to find a train of thought they are comfortable with and stick to it. I have many good friends who swear by sea salt, and I cannot dispute it with them.

Hope This Helps

Sure, several good pages about the problems with sea salt are:

www.cleanse.net/newsite/articles/minerals.html
www.cleanse.net/newsite/articles/removing_gallbladder_stones.html
www.cleanse.net/newsite/articles/digestive_tract.html

And some of the pages touting the benefits of sea salt are:
http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/salt.htm
http://detox.net.au/articles/cayenne-maple-lemon-cleanse.htm

Hope this helps. Try a google search on sea salt also

The difference may be iodine.Huh  I know the Master Cleanser asks you to take 2 tsp of uniodized salt with water for the rinse.  Don't quote me on this but I believe that this type of salt will not breakdown in your body so your innards are forced to Push It out = BM.      Smiley

From the Master Cleanse Book:
http://detox.net.au/articles/cayenne-maple-lemon-cleanse.htm

DIRECTIONS: Prepare a full quart (1 liter) of luke-warm water and add two level (rounded for the Canadian quart) teaspoons of sea salt (more for coarse). Do not use ordinary iodized salt as it will not work properly. Drink the entire quart of salt and water first thing in the morning. This must be taken on an empty stomach. The salt and water will not separate but will stay intact and quickly and thoroughly wash the entire tract in about one hour. Several eliminations will likely occur. The salt water has the same specific gravity as the blood, hence the kidneys cannot pick up the water and the blood cannot pick up the salt. This may be taken as often as needed for proper washing of the entire digestive system.

If the salt water does not work the first time, try adding a little more or a little less salt until the proper balance is found; or possibly take extra water with or without salt. This often increases the activity. Remember, it can do no harm at any time. The colon needs a good washing, but do it the natural way-the salt water way.

It is quite advisable to take the herb laxative tea at night to loosen, then the salt water each morning to wash it out. If for some reason the salt water cannot be taken in the morning, then the herb laxative tea must be taken night and morning.
