Colon cleansing and detoxifying the body is possibly the greatest way a person can improve their health and heal disease. Much of the health problems we experience today are largely due to the toxic diet that we consume, the lack of exercise, and polluted environments we live in, stressful lives we lead and many other factors.

Never before in history has cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other chronic ailments been so prevalent. Heart disease in many rural parts of the world, where eating meat is rare, is many times lower than in the modern world, where meat often makes up the majority of the diet.

The good news is that there is a solution, and it starts with switching to a vegan diet and cleansing the colon.

Why Cleanse Your Colon

The colon is the body’s first line of defense against any toxins that enter through our mouth, and it is also a catchment and removal organ for toxins that enter the body in other ways, as they are removed from the body by the liver and excreted through the intestines.

If the bowels are not clean they cannot perform their task of eliminating waste properly, and help to further toxify the blood and organs. If fecal matter and old mucous (mucoid plaque) are allowed to build up in the colon, then this can become a breeding ground for parasites, bacteria and fungus such as candida, which can create many health problems, and appear as diseases such as diabetes, heart disorders, high cholesterol and more.

The process of damaging the colon happens after many years of wrong eating, which is basically consuming an excess of acid forming foods. This causes the body to secrete excessive mucous into the bowel, and drains vital electrolytes and minerals from the body in an effort to balance the ph of the blood and buffer the excessive acids. When an excess of acid forming foods are consumed, the body secretes mucous into the digestive tract. Over time, if this habit of eating excessive acid forming foods continues everyday, then the mucoid plaqu,e which was used to line the colon in a mode of protection, will actually dry, become rubbery and be a breeding ground for unfriendly organisms. It will also inhibit the efficient absorption of nutrients and digestion of food, leading to problems such as bloating, gas and constipation.

So the most efficient way to reverse this condition, which afflicts practically all of the modern world, is to cleanse the colon with certain herbs and ideally bentonite clay.

How To Cleanse Your Colon

There is many different ways to cleanse you colon, and for more details about the different methods we refer you to our colon cleanse reviews section, and also the chapter of our health book ‘Cleansing The Body’ . Following we will talk in general about the topic.

How to:

  1. Change your diet and consume more alkalizing foods from the list here (generally it means eat more fruits and vegetables). Eventually it is recommenced to consume a vegan diet of 20% acid forming foods, and 80% alkaline forming. This will help to maintain the correct ph balance in the blood, and allow the body to cleanse itself naturally to some degree.
  2. Perform a colon cleanse. Our most highly recommended cleanses are the Bio Colon Cleanse and also the Blessed Herbs Colon Cleanse. We say this because from our tests it seems they are very effective, convenient, good value and safe.
  3. After cleansing is is advised to regularly exercise, get fresh air and sunshine, enough sleep, and take up some form of meditation.
  4. In the first year it is generally recommended to do a cleanse every three months.
  5. After the first year most people maintain good health by performing 1 or 2 cleanses per year, if they have maintained the diet suggested in point 1.

The two colon cleanses recommended in point 2 consist of a herbal formula that helps to cleanse and stimulate the bowel and organs, and break up old mucous and debris in the colon. There is also a psyllium bentonite shake that is consumed with apple juice, which absorbs toxins and debris from the bowel and removes them quickly. 1 teaspoon of bentonite clay has an absorptive surface area of 200 square meters. The extraordinary ability of bentonite to absorb toxins makes the cleansing process much easier.

There is 2 main ways to perform the cleansing:

  1. Consume only liquids such as fruit and vegetable juice (liquids fasting) while consuming the shakes and herbs for around 5 days.
  2. Lighten the food intake and consume alkaline forming foods only such as fruits, salads and vegetables and perform the cleanse over a longer period, such as 12 days.

Method 1 is more effective, but for people who are very unwell and do not feel they could go without solid food, then this is still an effective option. But the amount of calories and nutrition that the body requires can easily be obtained from the liquids consumed, and also from existing fat stores. The shakes also fill the stomach so hunger pangs are not a problem. Many people who didn’t think they could perform the 5 days of liquids fasting are surprised by how easy it really is, and not to mention HOW GREAT THEY FEEL!

There is also other kinds of cleanses that a person can perform, for example many people like the Master Cleanse (also known as the Lemon Detox), which involves drinking only drinks made of lemon juice, water, maple syrup and cayenne pepper and also consuming shakes made of sea salt and water. We have found several problems with this cleanse though, as people often have trouble drinking the salt drink, get very hungry, and have cleansing reactions. Some people love it though, so each to their own. Another popular cleanse is the Dr Natura Toxinout program, which is a nice program, but a little slow for our likings, and not as effective as the Bio Colon Cleanse and the Blessed Herbs Cleanse. There is also just straight juice fasting, which is great if you are already fairly clean, but if it’s your first time, then it can be difficult, and then there is also water fasting, which is the most difficult and only really recommended for people who are already confident in the state of their health.

Another method, which is different to the above methods is colonics or enemas, which can be performed by a special practitioner or at home. A hose is attached to your anus that inserts water into your colon, and then it is allowed to flow out with all the wastes. It is not uncomfortable generally. This method however is only able to cleanse the large intestine as the ileocecal valve stops water from travelling to the small intestine, hence making colonic cleansing less effective than many of the others.

      All sickness responds well to cleansing in the long run, providing you do the cleansing correctly. It takes time. Did you try it?

      • Hi, thanks for responding – sorry I missed seeing your reply sooner.

        I made the mistake of trying a cheaper herbal product without a toxin remover because we happened to run across it from a friend. Big mistake!

        If you are really sick with CFS or something similar, DO NOT skip a toxin remover. Inflammatory flare-ups from toxins being flushed from your body will be intensely painful and unhealthy in itself. I had to control mine with NSAIDS and we all know how unhealthy those are.

        I’m going to try one of your recommended products and report back about my experience, but I have little doubt the bentonite clay will be a lifesaver.
